Fàdákà Fest
RE:MEMBER — About

A festival is a meeting place.

Fàdákà Fest is a multidisciplinary arts and culture festival featuring a blend of theatre performances, film screenings, music concerts, dance shows, art exhibitions, workshops, and panel discussions.

The thread

RE:CLAIM is the thread running through the 2026 Festival. We reclaim cultural spaces that have shrunk or disappeared. We reclaim the memory and craft of Nollywood. We reclaim language, play and communal gathering. And we ask who owns creative work in the age of machines. Across five days in Ibadan, the Festival asks what we take back, what we leave behind and what we build next.

The 2026 theme

RE:CLAIM

What does it mean to reclaim?

Fàdákà Fest returns this year with a theme that is both a statement and a summons: RE:CLAIM.

Where the theme for the previous edition—Embrace the Wonder—invited our community to marvel at the brilliance already alive in African art and culture, RE:CLAIM asks something bolder of us: to take back what has been diluted, diminished, or told without our voice in the room. It is the second movement in the same renaissance. If wonder was the invitation, reclamation is the work. The theme also speaks to the imperative to revisit our claim to our endowment the way a subsequent mail or rebuttal to a publication calls attention and refers back to the original. It is following up with the greatness that already began.

To reclaim is to insist that our stories, our expressions, our music, and our crafts be returned to their full, undiluted glory. Performed, screened, staged, and exhibited on our own terms, in our own square. It is the griot’s tale told without apology or translation. It is the filmmaker, the poet, and the painter reclaiming the authority to define what African art means, rather than waiting to be defined.

The colon in RE:CLAIM is deliberate. It is a pause, a hinge between what was taken and what is being taken back. It marks this as an active, ongoing act rather than a finished one. Every stage play, every film screened, every panel convened this year is part of that reclamation: a premium showcase of art, literature, and performances exactly as brilliant as it always was, now returned to its rightful glory and its rightful audience.

This year, we don’t just embrace the wonder. We reclaim it.
